when you select the folder to install it in you should be able to choose D instead of C ...

Re: steam problem
When you are installing STEAM, choose D path. Its the only simple solution I can think of right now.

Re: steam problem
I searched.. and found this :
"steam automaticly installs to c:
1. Log out and exit Steam
2. Navigate to the folder where Steam is installed (by default: C:\Program Files\Steam\)
3. Delete all of the files and folders except the SteamApps folder and Steam.exe
4. Cut and paste your Steam folder to the new location, for example: D:\Games\Steam\
5. Launch Steam
6. Steam will briefly update and then you will be ready to play
7. All future game content will be downloaded to the new folder D:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\"
Maybe you should give it a shot?

Re: steam problem
Just for the hell of it, there's probably a few places holding lots of useless files you can delete to clear space on C. Might be worth checking in case you don't know about these just because it's never fun having little free space on your system drive.
C:\Documents and Settings\<Insert profile name>\Local Settings<It's a hidden folder>\Temp
There's usually a ton of useless shit in there after awhile. I can clear 500mbs-1GBs worth of data out of there on a weekly basis. Some of the files it won't let you delete, but just generally try to avoid deleting the hidden files in the temp folder, cause those are usually the ones still in use.
