UK elections are over

The big 3:
Tory: 36.2 %
Labour : 29.1%
LibDem: 23.0%

So they have a hung parliament (since Brown didn't resign, for whatever reason). What happens now?
- A Labour-LibDem coalition was in the works, but they don't have enough seats. A solution would be to scrimmage some other minor parties together to gain a majority, but it would form a hectic government. It's also silly that 36% of the people, who voted in one bloc, wouldn't get a say in government.
- A Tory-LibDem coalition is the only alliance with enough seats, but several key differences in policies (e.g. European Union, electoral reform) might hinder the cooperation. Cameron (Tory leader) has invited them, so all eyes are on Clegg now. Clegg has stated that he believes the biggest party in votes needs to govern, so this might be a viable deal after all. To me, this seems the best solution: Tory has most of the votes so they should be in the government, and LibDem definitely looks better than Labour (based on the Clegg-Brown comparison). Government stability may be low though.
- Tory-Unionist. The Northern Ireland parties are however divided: the Democratic Unionist party has a lot of working class voters (not so fond of Tory), whilst the Ulster Unionist party is already in alliance. Tory-Unionist could form a 'minority government'.

UK formations tend to last a week to 10 days (nothing when compared to Belgium lol).

Incredibly interesting to follow, really.

All scenarios are crap for the Tories

In the end it all boils down to
a) electoral reform
b) unpopularity for a generation with the austerity measures
c) a lib-lab pact and labour in power for another X years

The best mix is a combination of b) and c):
Lib-Lab coalition proves so unpopular that it collapses and the Tories win the ensuing election

Either way is bad news for the City: a coalition or especially a coalition with labour will prolly result a double-dip
