Weird Internet problem

I have for long now been bothered by my Internet. It seems to cut the connection and then almost immediately connect it back.
At first I thought it was just my MSN that had this error, as it logged me out and instantly logged me back in. But then I started to realize that at the same time as it logs me out of MSN all downloads and such as Youtube etc. stop loading.

Until this point I thought it happened irregularly at random, but when I checked my MSN events I noticed that I had logged out every 8 minutes past every hour and logged back in a minute later.
Like this:
-signed out at 00:08
-signed in at 00:09
-signed out at 01:08
-signed in at 01:09
-signed out at 02:08
-signed in at 02:09

And this had repeated on a regular basis. My Internet reconnects every hour. So now I'm wondering what that might be about.. Could it be a virus or something, the Internet operator screwing things up, or my own computer settings or something?
Does anyone have any idea?

I've thought about it, too. When I had this computer in another room there was no problem, but when I moved to this room the problems started.

check your cables or your card thingy for wireless internet
my bro had a lot of problems too trying to get internet wireless upstairs

Well I don't have a wireless connection, I have all the cables and stuff. I could check them out, but I highly doubt it's going to work.

Considering how it works I would say it a virus, you could how ever call your ISP and ask if there has been report problems with the connectivity in your area.

I could, yeah. I'm getting a faster connection soon anyway, so I can ask it at the same time. If it's a virus my scanner doesn't detect it.
Do you know any free scanners that would work and find it? >.>

viruses like that must be pretty hard to write, noone would do such an effort to just annoy you a bit

meh viruses like that should make your internet go of for 1 sec with a 3 sec pause.

it could be a problem with your modem/router as well, but that might be a little harder to fix.

Hule, you say you get faster internet. You mean you get it from another company? Cause then you should wait untill you got the new internet, and if it still happens, then it's something with your comp/modem/router.

I will most likely get it from the same company than my current one. That way I wouldn't have to be without the Internet a single day, while I would have to be a week or so without it if I changed the company.

I'm afraid that it's a virus which my virus scanner can't detect.. Hopefully it doesn't cause much damage or so.

well if its a firmware problem its easy idd. If its a hardware then u cant fix it by urself -.-'
btw Hule try the below:
- connect another PC to the cable u use now (to connect ur comp)
- use another cable/ another port and do all combinations to see where might be the problem
- if with none of teh above u can make it, ur ISP might have the problem or the router itself (might need firmware update or complete replacement with a new one)
- generally if u see that with a few ways u tried nothing works would be better to call ur ISP and say ur problem exacly so that they help u out
- also one more thing i can think is that maybe a telephone cable is damaged (the one connected to teh router). check for any damages along it and even the socket

Its possible you live in Singapore, cause I get the same.
