Wrong. Slipknot is metal. It may be hard to set in a separate genre, but even you know that it is metal. I would say it's mostly Alternative metal, with influences of Nu Metal and Metalcore. It surely could be said to include features suitable in other metal genres as well, but there is no doubt about Slipknot being metal.
