Just Read Animal Farm
ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS EVER!
It is very amusing to draw the parallels between the book and communist Russia, and I really enjoyed reading this book. When Boxer got shipped off, that's one of the most emotional fragments of literature that I know. I don't like the abrupt ending though.
Any thoughts about the book you would like to share?

Re: Just Read Animal Farm
I don't read much, to be honest. I always find 'better things to do' than reading for some reason..
I've started to read a bit more, though, and that's because a girl friend of mine has convinced me to do so.
Two best books that I have read must be The Little Prince by Antoine De Saint-Exupéry and O Alquimista (Alchemist) by Paulo Coelho.
I definitely recommend those.

Re: Just Read Animal Farm
one book you should defenatly read when you got nothing to do for about a month (it's quite long) is 'the discovery of heaven' by H. Mulish .
It's a classic in world literature and I love it
I might check Animal Farm out, that name sounds familiar... Who's it from?

George Oswell or Orwell, don't remember.
I read pretty fast (Da Vinci Code in one run in the morning).

Dan Brown reads fast.
Try Dostojewski
wiki says Orwell, great i'ma check it out.
Btw what language did you read it in? English or Dutch? I'm guessing it'd be better in the original, what do you think?

Re: Just Read Animal Farm
English. To read Orwell's writing style in translation is blasphemy.
The book is short (not much more than 100 pages) and written very clean, understandable and 'flat' (no fancy words).

Re: Just Read Animal Farm
Harry Potter books are nice and very entertaining, but I really prefer books that have a teaching or makes me think about stuff for real.

That's a broad concept, but yes. To be more exact, it handles the rise of the bolsjeviks (I don't care enough about the spelling of that word), the utopic dream of communism and how Stalin rises to power and how he corrupted the regime.
Re: Just Read Animal Farm
I already knew about the Russian Revolution et al, but it's a good book nonetheless.
