Why on earth to make a separate remark of yourself being partially Laveyan satanist if you really aren't one, but only share some of the ideas of the ideology?
I mean, c'mon.. I can say that I share some of the ideas of Boomlala, but I'm not partly a Boomlala-ist.
Or I can say that I subscribe to some of the ideas of Koran, for instance, but I'm not even partially a muslim. And the list goes on, you get the point.

Personally I'm partially a WAterbottlist.

Because I reject a very substantial portion of its ideology (magic and rituals) yet subscribe to some of its unique core values (e.g. fundamental individualism, undefiled wisdom). And its notion of psychic vampirism is very interesting to me.

I get you loud and clear, as you may know, but still I'm bored..
If you consider a great deal of the contents of the ideology NOT suitable for you and only SOME suitable, why make a remark to the ideology in the first place?
Can't you just say that your own way of thinking is rather individualistic and such, disregarding the whole Laveyan satanism?
Moreover, I don't think that the core values of this ideology are that unique, since many many people must have similar thoughts but know nothing about that satanism or any -isms whatsoever.
Someone who thinks like that has just put a label on it and made it a trademark.
Maybe it's the man's inner need to categorize theirselves somehow or something, I dunno.


There must be dozens of ideologies with no name that neither of us know of, with similar points of view to those that you DO subscribe to in Laveyan satanism. So maybe your points of view aren't close to Laveyan satanism, but those of Laveyan satanism close to yours.

I read my own post and somehow you may understand that I have something against Laveyan satanism or someone subscribing to its ideoloiges, but that's not what it's about really. At all. I'm just playing with thoughts as I always do when I'm tired lol. In fact I barely know what I've written in this post xD

We label things because it makes it easier to reference them when we communicate with our fellow man.

There might be other lesser-known ideologies out there who share those values, but that's besides the point: LaVeyan satanism was the first ideology I came across that postulated those values alongside each other, and henceforth Laveyan satanism was the one that canonized them for me. Any other ideologies with those values I may come across will not have that effect for me anymore (at least, with those values). More about this later.

Completely right, and very similar to "Satanists are born, not made" (Anton LaVey himself). Nevertheless I still reference to LaVeyan satanism as a 'calibration point'. It's the same reason people call themselves liberal or socialist: the movement aligns with them, not the other way around.

Some movements do operate that way: cults, propaganda and emo's. Cults brainwash you into conformity (mind control through several psychological techniques), propaganda makes you believe (deceit and misrepresentation) and emo's work by peer pressure. (I mention emo's half-seriously here, but still)

LaVeyan satanism appealed to me in its representation of those values (unlike other individual ideologies, such as wicca) and the collection of those values (all in one place). It also fits well with my existentialist ideology:
- relationship between man and the meaning of life: existentialism (Sartre)
- how to apply the meaning of life: LaVeyan satanism (LaVey)
- how do we gain knowledge: positivism (Comte)
- how do we apply knowledge: rationalism (Descartes)
- moralist view: Nietzsche + the Enlightenment (mainly Voltaire)

Those are the big 5 questions, and 1 & 2 fit really well together. We create our own meaning of life, by following our wishes and desires (not in a hedonistic-anarchistic way, but with responsibility and wisdom).
