The deus legio tavern
Well, I for one have a huge interest in beer, their breweries and their history. So I'm gonna make a thread here where you guys get a chance to share your thoughts on brands you like etc..
And nonsense will be kept to a minimum here. Anything out of place will be deleted or moved to its respective place. I was going to dedicate this to beer, but I'll take the fact into account that Boom just drinks wine and he should get to participate as well. =) Its also allowed to generally talk about the brands and perhaps recipes for food etc..
Stuff I'd like you to share your thoughts on:
What kind it is
Which brewery
The strength
Color
Smell
Taste
Aftertaste
And perhaps whether you'd recommend it or not, pictures of bottle/can & glass are also welcome to this thread.
Grade each criteria from 1-5 where 5 is the strongest. Of course this only applies for the looks, smell, taste and aftertaste. Then combine them and give them a final verdict.
Now if interest is high, I'll sticky this.
So for starters:
Budweiser Budvar
Not to be confused with the cheap American copy.
Image from google:
Brand: Premium Lager
Brewery: Budejovice Budvar
Strength: 5% VOL
Looks: It has a light golden color with a decent foam.
Smell: Hints of citrus and hop.
Taste: Tastes of fruit and hop, but well balanced.
Aftertaste: Fruity and dry, lasts for some time.
This is a good tasting and a easy drinkable beer. On its looks, aftertaste and smell I'd score it a 3.5 and a 4 on the taste.
So this isn't the best beer in the world for me, but its still a great beer which is easily enjoyable. My final verdict is then a 3.5 and I do recommend this for a summer day!

Re: The deus legio tavern
I just had Grolsch Kanon... 11.6%
xD
It tastes too.. "powerful"? Can't really give a word to it.
I like Grolsch though, their Premium Pilsner's taste good.
I don't enjoy much brands of beer, I hate Gulpener, Heineken..
Jupiler is relatively cheap and 'easy' to drink, but my favourite is Grolsch.

Why not? You has to explore your horizon!
Perhaps we should make it, an alcoholic thread, so people can talk about whines and such too

Re: The deus legio tavern
I love this beer.
It has lots of foam and a clear colour.
It's exported a bit, but is mostly present in Belgium.
It's rather strong though (8.5%) and for some reason it gets you drunker than most beer.

Wine as well as other beverages are accepted too, just beer was the initial though, but not everyone here likes it
And yeah tried Duvel a few weeks back, quite an awesome pale ale imo.

why can u never be on topic?
Meh Leffe. It's hardly beer; it's made almost completely with chemicals and costs less to make than a pint. Yet it's more expensive :s

Sadly I can't drink regular beers, but if I find time I'll make a review about a gluten-free beer. ^^

Re: The deus legio tavern
After my first semester of college, these are the bears I have tasted, from bad to good. Opinions would be welcome.
6) Rodenbach
Awful beer, apparently it's like Kriek which I haven't tried. Tastes way too fruity.
5) Maes
Tried this while clubbing with friends. Wasn't too impressed, not that special of a taste.
4) Jupiler
The beer I started with at a freshman event. Reasonable taste, welcomed me into the world of beer, I think it's a good starters drink.
3) Grimbergen Blond
First and only 'ale' so far I've tried. Good taste, nice to drink after dinner, fantastic presentation. I like drinking out of those round glasses.
2) Carlsberg
Exceptional taste, very good to drink with meat in my opinion. Nice yellow colour with good foam.
And 1) Stella Artois
Not a lot of people seem to like Stella it seems (especially not in Limburg), but I definitely like this beer the best. During the semester I drink it every Monday at my regular café with friends. Really good taste, especially when you drink it out of a glass, yellow colour, good foam, not as expensive as Carlsberg. Apparently there is international distribution of this beer as well, always handy.

Re: The deus legio tavern
I hated Stella when I went to Versuz.. me and a friend of mine got all beers from class mates because they didn't like it either.. Us 2 just drank it ... because it's beer.. xD
I had Chouffe during new year.. it tasted ew :p
On my no-like list:
Gulpener
Heineken
La Chouffe
Stella Artois

Re: The deus legio tavern
Stella is quite nice. I think one of the best "pint" beers around. Jupiller is really good too, but I kinda got sick of it. I like also Maes, unlike many. I always drink it when I'm visiting my grandparents.
Seriously, Heineken is the worst beer I ever drank. It's available everywhere in the world, and it's fn piss. Stupid dutchies don't know anything about brewing beer. It's like Amstel, an other hugely overrated barley monstrousity.

Re: The deus legio tavern
I tasted a gluten-free beer on New Year's eve, it was rather good actually.. Better than any I've tasted so far.
Later tonight if I have time I'll do some research and post a picture of it..
