Belgian government fell
Flemish Liberals withdrew their support of the Leterme II government, and Prime Minister Leterme (Christian Democrat) has offered his resignation to King Albert II.
The issue of the Brussel-Halle-Vilvoorde electoral split was not successfully resolved, and the Liberals held their word: if today's deadline on the issue was breached, they would quit.
At the moment, the resignation has not yet been approved by the King, and both the Council of Ministers (Ministerraad) and the conference of the chairmen of the Chamber of Representatives (conferentie van de voorzitters van de Kamer van Volksvertegenwoordigers) are being held.
I'll keep you updated on the situation.

Re: Belgian government fell
The same thing like a few years back: an interim-government needs to be formed, new elections, and another government formation cycle begins.
If BHV doesn't get solved by 2011, every election from that year on forwards will be unconstitutional as decided by the Constitutional Court (Grondwettel Hof, older name Arbitragehof).

Remain Calm. (and thanks for the info. i'll watch for it on the news tomorrow and by the time word reaches our shores, your fine country will have wiped itself out in a bitter civil war.)

I want to move out of Britain.
What a dump - the political situation is terrible (although not as bad as Belgium or NL).

You should see the situation here in Slovenia. We have interpellations of ministries every few months LOL. Coalition and opposition fight constantly. Government is weak with affairs popping out every week. In National Assembly people tend to leave im mass groups out of protests. There is no work done and everything is put to a halt. After the 2009 crysis we are barely managing and many experts predict that we will follow Greece. But unlike Greece we don't think Slovenia could survive and get it self out of the dump. Greece atleast has mass tourism.
Xris how can a parliament fell? I dont get it....government yes but parliament?

Re: Belgian government fell
What's the Greek situation by the way? It seems really negative, but I have absolutely no clue of what it entices.

Why is that? Is power in government proportional to the number of votes a party gets? Does this happen often? It's interesting because I'm worried about this becoming reality for years to come in Britain

Re: Belgian government fell
Its just that greeks go down on strikes really often and same goes for students at schools and univrsities.
And its quite normal with the circumstances getting worse and worse.
And about the dept thingy im not gonna say its not "our" fault. Goverments r been shit for decades now, there is a lot of corruption in many sections but its a fact that many want Greece to have debt. That's the way to control a country like Greece. Also this dept story is helping other economies.
