IP Address Change (Fail)
So ...
I go into my router setup page (192.168.1.1) and manually change my MAC-address so the Internet IP-address shows 0.0.0.0 which is perfectly normal
Then I "Release" (disconnect) and "Renew" (connect) on my router status page and let it refresh ...
This should successfully change my IP address but it doesn't
Any ideas?
Other methods has been used aswell but I'm too lazy to mention it, sorry

You need to do this with your modem.

Re: IP Address Change (Fail)
reset ur router and will probbaly change
some others just need to unplug them (switch on-off the device) as Darijo says
if nothing happens then probbaly ur provider provides u with a static IP> give them a call to make sure

Re: IP Address Change (Fail)
reset is different that unplug and plug
it will remove ur username and password from it and generally bring it back to its original settings
takes about a minute or maybe less
just make sure u have any firmware patches that might needed (that u maybe had installed) and ofc ur username and ur p/w so that u gain conn with ur provider again

Re: IP Address Change (Fail)
Emilio,
Start-->Run--->regedit.
It will open a console, usually like this. (Sorry it's in french)
Then type ipconfig /release
You'll get this:
Now, type ipconfig /renew
You'll get this:
Now go to http://whatismyipaddress.com/
Copy your IP, Paste it into the adress and you'll log in your modem.
Then look for an option called Restart or so.
Click it and while it restarts type ipconfig /release in the console again.
When the modem will have restarted, you may have a new IP.
If it didn't work, retry again and do the release and renew severals time before restarting the modem.
Good luck!
Hope this will help you.

Re: IP Address Change (Fail)
it only changes local bunu, unless you have set the modem/router up to receive ip from your computer.
Are you sure your ISP serve dynamic ips? I'd give them a call or check their homepage.

Lies but k.
Xav, on this point...
I know what I say, you always receive the IP directly on your computer.
When you'll do what I said it'll send informations to modem/router and when you'll restarts, it changes.
Worked most of the time for me, and thats the best way.
Unless you have the time to release everything then shutdown everything for one day to make your IP change. rofl!
Give a try and you'll see, unless your modem/router is too hard.

Re: IP Address Change (Fail)
ur mac adress is your physical adress, or better yet.. your hardware ID. every mac adress is uniqie and should not be changed, the way to change your IP is to simply turn the router off for around 10 mins and switch it back on. if that fails, open command, type ipconfig /release, turn off the router, wait 5 mins, turn back on, type ipconfig /renew
go to ipchicken.com, write down the IP, go to router setup, and change that IP to w/e you want, but do not change anything after the mac
if that also fails, your ISP is a cunt.

I know ...........
If you looked closely I said that. You modem if configured to receive the IP from you. Technically its not chosen by you, its chosen by the modem, you just give it the order to change. It releases the ip and picks up a random one from your areas network pool IF one is available at that time. If you want full control, you have to do the previous and set a static one which might not work unless you know the range and which is in use.
Now, Emilio. You say router, but I need to ask this; is this router connected directly to the outlet? or is it connected to another "box"?(modem)
