Do note that I still think (but not really know for sure) ambiguity has more to do with definitions of words than their origin. But in both cases I have shown my reasoning why soccer is less ambiguous than football.

Football refers to the sport in you kick a ball with the foot in an attempt to score a goal

Which one is more clear? The second. Why? Cause the majority of people you'd ask who USE the word soccer instead of football would NOT know it's origin (I just asked the two people in the room for example...both played soccer as they grew up, neither knew).

(not the point about asSoc) You do not need to know word origins to define one word's ambiguity, seeing how soccer is a crystal clear word: if you say soccer, people will know exactly what you're thinking of. When you say football, it can depend on the culture they're in. Americans will think about American football. British people will think about soccer. Irishmen may even think about their Gaelic variant.

Thus word origin has no role in ambiguity. Only its definitions.
